WHAT IS PERSONAL INFORMATION?
Personal information is any information that can be used to identify who you are. This may include your first and last name, email address, home address or telephone number, or email address.
Informed consent is ALWAYS obtained from participants before collecting personal information. This means that JPSYCH will never collect any personal information without your knowledge and permission.
WHY JPSYCH MAY COLLECT PERSONAL INFORMATION DURING RESEARCH STUDIES?
Wherever possible, JPSYCH studies are conducted anonymously in order to provide the highest degree of protection for participants' privacy. However, some studies require that participants provide an active email address to facilitate communication (e.g., studies that require on-going participation). Participants are free to create an alias email address for the purposes of participating in such studies (e.g., email@example.com), unless otherwise noted. Additionally, after completing involvement in JPSYCH studies, participants are typically given the option to receive the results of the investigation via email. To protect your privacy, email addresses collected for the purposes of communicating results are NOT linked to participants' responses to psychological questions unless otherwise noted.
HOW YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION IS KEPT CONFIDENTIAL
Where it is necessary to gather personal information for research purposes, data is kept confidential. Personal information is kept in secure files and access is restricted to researchers who use the data for the purposes of investigation (i.e., only those who have a need to know). Wherever possible, personal information is removed from datasets after it is no longer needed. Additionally, JPSYCH makes reasonable efforts to protect your personal information from loss, theft, unauthorlzed access, disclosure, copying, misuse and alteration.
